RVN: Brazil – the two hours that contest the result
On October 25, Lula won the runoff with 51.8% to Flávio Bolsonaro’s 48.2%.
He came back from a deficit in the first round. That is rare in modern Brazil.
At the same time, there is an order that extended the normal closing time of 5 p.m. by two hours.
What the records show
Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin (Lula’s former lawyer, appointed by him) issued a nationwide order around 5 p.m. to keep polling stations open until 7 p.m.
Reason: complaints about public transport, mainly in Bahia and São Paulo.
Bolsonaro’s campaign had also requested an extension — due to rain and power outages in the south.
Zanin later clarified that only stations still open at the time of the order could continue. Many had already closed. That created chaos and unequal application.
It was the first time since electronic voting machines were introduced that a court extended voting hours this way.
The pattern
A close race.
A last-minute order from a justice with a direct link to the winner.
A loser who refuses to recognize the result and seeks annulment.
We see the same elsewhere: first the result, then the contestation, then the documents, then silence or the next round.
What this means
An order is not proof of manipulation.
A link to the winner is not proof that the result was changed.
A refusal to concede is not a clean bill of health for the procedure.
What is established: the extension was unusual, came at the last minute, and was issued by someone with a clear connection to Lula. The margin was over 4 million votes. Whether that margin was created by those two hours has not been shown.
OIM way out
Do not adopt the claim that the election was stolen.
Do not treat the denial as the end of the story.
Do look at: what the order says.
Who issued it.
When.
What has been examined about its actual impact.
Verifiable records over a story that comes and goes.
Question for you
How often have you seen a close race end with a last-minute order…
only for it to return later with an annulment request?
