Sunday. France counts the damage.
Interior Ministry: more than 1,800 arrests. About 150 injured officers.
Limoges town hall partly destroyed. Shops looted in multiple cities. Retail damage estimated in the hundreds of millions.
Most marches stayed peaceful.
The edges did not.
Trump on Truth Social:
“France is burning! The immigration of people from an entirely different world, people with hatred in their hearts, has shattered that once great country. Close your Borders and take control, before it is too late!”
Vance earlier in the same direction.
French authorities so far point to the far left and looters, not immigration as the main cause.
Italy: Milan, Piazza del Duomo. Masks, stones, fireworks. Tear gas and water cannon.
About 50 arrests, many minors. Turin and Bologna as well.
Meloni: demonstrating is a right, setting the city on fire is not.
Belgium: Brussels and Liège. Tear gas and water cannon.
Smaller marches over higher grocery prices, rent and tuition.
Macron addresses the nation this evening.
The parallel
Tomorrow we look at 1978.
Iran. Liberal and Islamist groups stood together against the Shah.
The alliance did not hold. The outcome was not shared power.
No comparison of countries. But of patterns: broad unrest, different goals, and the question of who remains once the dust settles.
OIM way out
Not turning every march into a riot.
But placing the images side by side: where police withdrew, who removed the barricades themselves, which buildings burned.
A state that leaves the street to whoever throws hardest forces the rest to handle it themselves.
That is not order. That is a gap.
Whoever wants to close that gap starts with the count, not the label.
Question for you
Trump names immigration. French authorities name the far left and looters.
What do you see in the images?
