RVN: The bill – the money comes in, the backup does not

Earlier the bridge. 6 billion in road tax. No money for maintenance in the north. The Suurhoffbrug closed or over the hard shoulder. Water is not decoration here. The tax came in anyway.

Now the digital layer. Albert Heijn switches systems off as a precaution. Four days later: fresh gone, site down, one expert counts 21 million in revenue lost. No culprit. A chain that did not have its second leg.

France, the same week. Freezers on software without updates. 50 degrees. Tens of millions in damage. Japan: records via a supplier. Yandex: three halls, taxis gone.

Where it goes

The money comes in. Road tax. Excise. IT budgets. Defence to 28 billion. The table is full.

The outcome stands next to it. A bridge postponed for years. A supermarket that cannot fill its fresh shelves after one Sunday afternoon. A thermostat nobody patches anymore.

Not “they steal it”. The income and the redundancy are not on the same line. Maintenance and a second line yield nothing until the day they are needed. So they are not built.

The split

Scale is called efficiency. One central system, one app, one distribution. Until the plug is pulled. Then the efficiency is the standstill.

The Accu Manifest was the warning. Overhead, dependence, a chain that breaks when one link fails. Ahold is the living proof. No conspiracy. A plan that skipped the second line. https://openinternetmanifest.org/en/accu-manifest

OIM way out

Do not deny the tax.
Do not turn every empty shelf into theft.

Do: what comes in, and what is standing when it fails.
A backup that needs four days is not efficiency. It is postponement with a price tag.

Tomorrow: the shop window. What the brochure promises, and why the node has to be yours.

Question for you

The money comes in. The bridge stays closed, the tomato is gone…
what did the bill pay for?
