RVN: Flydubai – first the dive, then the stories
Wednesday: flydubai FZ1073, Dubai to Tel Aviv.
Over Saudi Arabia the aircraft suddenly goes down. Thousands of metres in seconds. Landing in Tabuk. All passengers alive. Both pilots to hospital.
That is the core.
Then the frames began.
The codes
An aircraft can transmit a four-digit code. Air traffic control sees it at once.
7700: general emergency. Fire, pressure, illness, technical failure — everything except the two special codes.
7500: unlawful interference. In practice: hijacking, or someone taking the cockpit by force.
FZ1073 set 7700 first. Then 7500. Then 7700 again.
That says: first distress. Then “something criminal or violent is involved”. Then distress again.
It does not say who stabbed, why, or who landed the aircraft.
The frames of day one
Frame 1: a fight in the cockpit.
Two men clash. The airline says “altercation”. No motive. No names.
Frame 2: the wounded captain saves the ship.
Blood on the floor. He opens the door. A passenger later says he pulled the controls, the way he had seen in a TV series about air disasters. Israel names an Indian captain. The second man is said to be Omani. The airline does not confirm that.
Frame 3: passengers overpower a hijacking.
People rush forward. Headphone cords as restraints. Heroism.
Frame 4: jihad.
Katz: an attempted terror attack. Netanyahu: he wanted to crash the aircraft with everyone on board. Saudi Arabia is questioning him. Motive: unknown.
Four sentences about one dive.
They may share pieces of truth. None of the four is the final report.
What does stand
Flightradar: a steep descent, an odd track, those two codes.
Flydubai: a fight in the cockpit. Extra crew from the same airline were travelling on the flight and landed the aircraft.
The UAE aviation authority: a security incident. An investigation. Do not circulate unofficial information.
A replacement aircraft to Tel Aviv. Flights to Israel suspended.
The rest is who had the microphone first.
The pattern
First the radar.
Then the prime minister.
Then the hero.
Then the terror.
Anyone who only says “a quarrel” turns a knife into a workplace dispute.
Anyone who only says “jihad” has the motive in before the interrogation is done.
Anyone who only says “the wounded pilot landed it” wipes away the airline’s reserve crew.
Same reflex as every fast disaster: the label arrives before the black box.
OIM way out
Do not belittle the passengers.
Do not copy the prime minister.
Do: descent, codes, landing, injuries.
Do: who says what, and what the airline and the aviation authority still will not say.
A cockpit without an investigation is the shop window.
The till is the report.
