RVN: Malieveld – the label was there before the first stone

Saturday, Malieveld. Wij Zijn Het Volk.
Headlines: far right. Hitler salute. 24 arrests. Jetten: repulsive.

Part of that happened.
Fireworks, a pole, riot police, an emergency order. Anyone who throws is no longer a demonstrator.

Part of it was there before the first stone.

What came first

Half past eleven: calm. Not a war.
Still: black as the dress code. Faces covered. That projects something. That is not innocent fashion.

From the stage: no march if the coverings stay. Arrests.
Oil on the fire.
Because the same covering has been tolerated at other protests for years — and in the covid years was briefly mandatory.

The march was barely allowed to start. Kettled. A long wait. Three metres, not five hundred.
Anyone who wanted to leave after it escalated was not allowed out at first. Advice: go towards the rioting group. That is not an exit. That is a kettle.

Two frames

One: hooligans looking for a clash. Prince’s flag, salute, remigration scarf. Done.

The other: police who ban coverings and then play the squad game.

Both can hold a piece.
Undercovers in masks who egg people on: possible. Not proven. Anyone who drops that as fact does the same as the headline.

XR on the A12 the same day: Jetten “unacceptable”. Two sentences, two weights. Measure the rule, not only the flag.

The pattern

First the label.
Then the atmosphere.
Then the stone.
Then the label was right.

Face covering is the hinge.
At one demo a right. At the other a reason to dissolve.
Same mouth. Different shirt.

OIM way out

Do not excuse the salute.
Do not turn the riot police into a plot.

Do split.

Who stood there at 11.30 without a mask.
Who threw.
Who was not allowed to leave.
Which rule applied last year on the Malieveld, and at XR.

Film. Hash. The wording of the orders.
The stamp is not a police report.

Question for you

Did you see a demo that derailed…
or a label that had already drawn the route?
