RVN: Prosperity to be earned again – on the hard shoulder

Tuesday: the economy is strong. Infrastructure gets money. Prosperity to be earned again.

Wednesday: Rijkswaterstaat closes the two lanes of the western Suurhoff Bridge. Cracks in the main girder. Everything towards the Maasvlakte on the hard shoulder. Twenty to thirty minutes extra. 36,500 vehicles a day, 15,500 of them trucks.

The bridge dates from 1974. It was already under intensified supervision. The “new” arch beside it is temporary, from 2021. A real new Suurhoff Bridge: 2032 at the latest.

Earlier this summer: the Merwede Bridge, no more freight on the A27.

The old count

We already wrote it: billions in road tax, and in the north no money for maintenance https://openinternetmanifest.org/social-posts/en/day-107-rvn.html.

Not because the road disappears.
Because maintenance is the line you can defer until the steel gives way.

Budget Day added €1.5 billion in incidental infrastructure and €300 million structural.
That is a line in the memorandum.
The girder in the port is the audit.

Where the money does go

The question is not whether there is “no money”.
The question is the order.

Road tax and excise come in.
Then comes the political choice: new, visible, international — or the girder nobody photographs on Budget Day.

Defence is growing fast. The health premium and the excess too.
The port, meanwhile, drives on the hard shoulder.

Deltalinqs calls the A15 a lifeline.
Those are containers arriving late. That is not a column.

The same translation as purchasing power.
“Repair” was 0.1 percent down.
“Investing in infra” is a 1974 bridge with 2032 on it.

OIM way out

Do not turn every crack into a conspiracy.
Do follow the chain.

What comes in from road tax and excise.
What goes to new tarmac.
What goes to maintaining what is already there.
Which bridge is on the list, which is on the hard shoulder.

Read the Budget Memorandum.
Then drive the A15.

Question for you

If the port has to use the hard shoulder…
where did the money go that was collected?
