RVN: Fascism – the word that may mean anything

Two weeks ago: words acquire moral charge, get stretched, lose their sharpness.
Racism. The letters. How expensive it is to admit.

Today one word that shows the mechanism in its purest form.

Fascism.

Under a disagreement about culture or inflow it appears in a single reply: NAZI IDIOT FASCIST.
Headlines over Saxony-Anhalt had it on before the count was in.
Wilders, Trump, a hard sentence on asylum — the same stamp.

What it actually was

Fascism is not a synonym for “right-wing” or “strict”.
It was a form of regime: one party, one leader, opposition out, the state above all, violence as a political tool.
Italian fascism built that out.
National Socialism added a racial doctrine.

That is heavy.
That is why the word was once sharp.

What it does now

The wider you smear it, the less it still distinguishes.
A judgement on a culture is not fascism.
44 percent in Saxony-Anhalt is not 1933.
A fence is not a march on Rome.

Whoever sticks the label on no longer has to read the programme.
The debate is over. The camp is closed.

Even commentators who used the word loosely for years now say it has emptied out — and apply it mainly where it suits them.
The safe example. Not the letters. Not “woman”. Not this.

OIM way out

Do not pretend fascism never exists.
Do give the word back its meaning.

Ask: one party? Banned press? Street violence as programme? Racial state?
Then say that.
Not “fascist” when you mean “I disagree”.

Precise words make control possible.
Empty slurs make black boxes.

Question for you

When did you last hear “fascist” dropped…
and did it refer to a regime, or to an opinion?
