RVN: Saxony-Anhalt – the voter spoke, the label was already there
Saxony-Anhalt voted on Sunday.
AfD landed around 44 percent of votes cast. By far the largest. Just short of an absolute majority.
Chancellor Merz’s CDU dropped to roughly 17 to 19 percent — about half of before.
Turnout high, towards three quarters of the 1.7 million eligible voters. In 2021 it was still 60 percent.
That is the count.
The frame was already standing.
First far-right state government since 1945. Firewall. Danger. Extreme right.
Not every one of those words is empty.
German intelligence services have classified AfD chapters as right-wing extremist. That is a fact, not a column.
A party is also not the CDU just because voters are angry.
Still the label did the heavy lifting.
Before the ballot: a warning.
After the ballot: the same warning, now with a percentage.
The government is not there yet. The tag is.
What the word does
Far right is not a neutral measuring stick in Germany.
It drags 1933 with it. Once you stick it on, you no longer have to take the programme apart: migration, industry, East German lag, Merz sliding.
Then 44 percent is not a result to examine.
Then 44 percent is a moral accident.
The same mechanism as with the stretching of concepts.
A historically heavy word is made so wide that it covers every unwelcome count.
What now sits on the table
AfD claims a mandate to govern.
The rest refuse to work with them.
Without a majority of seats it becomes a stalemate: largest party, no coalition, threat of a new election.
That is politics.
Not a reason to write off almost half of the votes cast as a collective deviation.

Do not canonise the AfD.
Do not make the label the only explanation.
First the figures.
Then what voters name: the border, work, distrust of Berlin.
Only then the intelligence status and the history.
Anyone left with only “far right” does not need to understand Saxony-Anhalt.
Only to condemn it.
