“What color tie are you wearing?”
“What color is the carpet in front of you?”
Fauci gave the same answer every time: “On the advice of counsel, I respectfully decline to answer based upon my rights under the Fifth Amendment…”
Hawley then explained why he asked those questions.
This was not a game.
It was a test of whether Fauci was willing to answer anything at all.
When someone refuses to state the color of his own tie, it shows he had decided in advance to answer nothing — not because he feared self-incrimination, but because he wanted to avoid any form of accountability.
