RVN: Part 4 โ Replace Windows (your computer is not yours)๐ป
Narrative:
โWindows is just the easiest. You canโt run everything on Linux anyway.โ
Reality:
That was mostly true 10โ15 years ago.
In 2026, that story is largely outdated.
The honest situation today:
99% of daily tasks work excellently on Linux (browsing, email, Office documents, video, banking, etc.)
Gaming: Steam + Proton now works extremely well โ many games even run better than on Windows.
Professional software: Photoshop โ Affinity Suite or Photopea.
Adobe Suite โ Often works via web or virtual machine.
Niche professional tools โ Sometimes still tricky, but usually solvable with a virtual machine.
Banking & government: Works fine in most cases via browser.
The truth:
Yes, there are still a few niche programs that only run well on Windows. For those cases you can simply keep a dual-boot or run Windows inside a virtual machine (VirtualBox or virt-manager).
Easiest options for beginners:
Linux Mint โ Best choice if you come from Windows (looks and feels familiar)
Zorin OS โ Looks even more like Windows
Pop!_OS โ Excellent for gaming and modern hardware
Action for today / this weekend:
Download Linux Mint โ https://linuxmint.com
Create a bootable USB stick
Try it first in Live mode (without installing or touching Windows)
See if your important programs work
You donโt have to delete Windows immediately. Dual-boot is perfectly fine.
OIM Way Out
Digital sovereignty doesnโt mean everything has to work perfectly from day one.
It means you consciously choose systems where you are in control โ not Microsoft.
This was the final part of Phase 1 (the basic steps).
Question to you
Whatโs still holding you back from trying Linux?
Is it really โI canโt run everythingโ or something else?
