RVN: Part 3 – Replace Gmail (your email is not private) ✉️
Narrative:
“Gmail is just convenient and reliable. Everyone uses it.”
Reality:
Gmail is one of Google’s most powerful surveillance tools.
Every email you send or receive is scanned, analyzed, and stored. Google doesn’t just read your mail to show you ads — it builds an extremely detailed profile of you, your contacts, your interests, and your entire life.
This is not a conspiracy theory. This is their business model.
Better alternatives:
ProtonMail → Best and easiest choice for most people (end-to-end encrypted, based in Switzerland, no scanning)
Tutanota → Strong privacy, open source, German
Skiff Mail (now part of Notion) → Beautiful design with end-to-end encryption
Self-hosted (Mailcow, Poste.io or similar + custom domain) → Maximum sovereignty (for advanced users)
Action for today (takes 10-15 minutes):
Create an account at ProtonMail → https://proton.me/mail
Set up a new email address (e.g. yourname@proton.me)
Start informing important contacts that you’re switching
Optionally set up forwarding from Gmail temporarily so you don’t miss anything
Bonus tip: Buy your own domain name (via Proton or Namecheap) and link it. Then you’re truly independent.
OIM Way Out
Every email you send through Gmail is a voluntary gift to Google.
Digital sovereignty means your communication belongs to you again.
This is Part 3.
Tomorrow Part 4: Why you should ditch Windows (and switch to Linux).
Question to you
Are you still using Gmail as your main account?
Or have you already switched? If yes, to what?
