Pixelfed is the decentralized alternative to Instagram: share photos and stories without an algorithm controlling your feed, without ads, and with full data portability.

Step 1 – Choose an instance (server)

Step 2 – Create an account

  1. Go to your chosen server’s website
  2. Click Register or Sign up
  3. Enter a username, email address and strong password
  4. Verify your email → done!

Step 3 – Set up your profile

Step 4 – Follow people

Step 5 – Post your first photo

Upload a photo, add a nice caption and post!

You are now outside the fence of Instagram.
