Create your first Hubzilla account
Hubzilla is a powerful decentralized platform that combines social networking, cloud storage, blogs, and nomadic identity. Your data and identity travel with you, wherever you go.
Time: 20–30 minutes
Cost: €0
Step 1 – Choose a hub
Good starters for beginners:
- hubzilla.nl – Dutch hub, beginner-friendly
- hub.libranet.de – German, privacy-focused and active
- zotum.net – stable general hub
Or browse more hubs at hubzilla.org/hub-directory.
Step 2 – Create an account
- Go to your chosen hub’s website
- Click Register or Create account
- Enter a username, email address and strong password
- Complete registration (sometimes moderated)
- Verify your email → done!
Step 3 – Set up your profile and identity
- Choose a recognizable profile picture and write a clear bio
- Create additional channels if you want multiple identities
- Enable nomadic identity (you can easily move to another hub later without losing data)
- Connect with other networks (Mastodon, Friendica, Diaspora, etc.)
Step 4 – Make connections
- Search and add contacts within the Zot network
- Connect with the wider fediverse (Mastodon, Friendica)
- Import contacts from other systems
Step 5 – Make your first post
Write a post, share a photo or file — Hubzilla automatically distributes it across your connected networks.
You now have a full, portable and independent digital identity.
