Step 1 – Go to Chaos.social
Go directly to chaos.social
Step 2 – Create an account
- Click Registrieren or Sign up
- Fill in a username (e.g.
@yourname) - Fill in your email address and a strong password
- Accept the house rules (Chaos.social is actively moderated but free)
- Verify your email → done!
Step 3 – Set up your profile
- Choose a recognizable profile picture
- Write a short bio (who you are and what interests you: privacy, tech, freedom…)
- Optionally add your old X/Twitter handle in your bio
- Pin a welcome post: “Just started on Chaos.social — hello free fediverse!”
Step 4 – Follow people
- Follow hashtags like #ChaosSocial, #Privacy, #Fediverse, #FOSS
- Search for names or handles of people you know
- Use Fedifinder to find your old Twitter/X followers
Step 5 – Make your first post
Post something about privacy, freedom, or why you switched.
You are now part of an active, free and non-commercial community.
